La semana pasada la noticia de que la más grande leyenda del boxeo, Muhammed Ali, había fallecido a la edad de 74 años, después de una larga batalla contra el mal de Parkinson, sacudió al mundo entero, pues no ha habido ningún hombre que logre igualar su técnica en el boxeo.

Después de su muerte, los tributos y las muestras de apoyo a su familia no se hicieron esperar por parte de sus amigos y seguidores de todo el mundo, pues además de ser el mejor con los guantes, Ali era una excelente persona y luchador social.

Así, finalmente, ayer por más de 14,000 personas se reunieron para rendir homenaje a ‘The Greatest‘ en una caravana que recorrió por más de dos horas la ciudad de Lousiville, en el estado de Kentucky, lugar nata del astro del boxeo.

El cortejo fúnebre pasó por en frente de la casa en la que creció el boxeador, por el Ali Center y el Center for African American Heritage -que destaca la vida de los negros en Kentucky- y por el Bulevar Mohamed Ali, y finalmente paró en el cementerio Cave Hill, donde fue sepultado en presencia de sus familiares.

Entre los personajes destacados que asistieron a darle el último adiós al boxeador estuvieron, Will Smith, los excampeones mundiales de boxeo Lennox Lewis y Mike Tyson, quienes cargaron el ataúd con otras cinco personas en el cementerio Cave Hill y el ex presidente norteamericano Bill Clinton, quien junto al comediante Billy Crystal leyeron discursos fúnebres.
