Hoy a las 7 p.m., en Santa Monica, California, se hará la vigésimo segunda entrega de los Critics’ Choice Awards o Premios de la Crítica Cinematográfica, que muchos consideran la antesala a las nominaciones grandes: los Globos de Oro y los Oscar.
En 2015, la Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) y la Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) se unieron para que más de 300 críticos pudieran ponerse de acuerdo en los Critics’ Choice Awards, y así premiar en una gala a lo mejor de la producción fílmica y televisiva de los EEUU y Canadá. La BFCA es la mayor organización en ambos países, representando a críticos especializados en televisión, radio y medios online. Por su parte, la BTJA es un colectivo de cien periodistas que cubren regularmente las novedades televisivas para audiencias de TV, radio y online.
El encargado de hacer chistes y presentaciones y probablemente incomodar a varias personas durante toda la noche es, por segundo año consecutivo, J.T. Miller, a quien tal vez recuerden por cosas como Silicon Valley y Deadpool.
Este año se entregarán por primera vez en diciembre, justo para adelantarse a los demás premios y marcar la tendencia de lo que sucederá el año que entra. Arrival (La llegada) está nominada en diez categorías: mejor película, actriz, director, guion adaptado, cinematografía, diseño de producción, edición, efectos visuales, película de ciencia ficción y banda sonora. Mientras que La La Land lidera las nominaciones, pues tiene 12 en total: mejor película, actor, actriz, director, guión original, cinematografía, diseño de producción, edición, diseño de vestuario, canción (dos veces) y mejor banda sonora.
